Autumn Spiced Chai

Title: Autumn Spiced Chai

Chai Spice Recipe

Servings 1 | Calories per serving 30 - 90

Ingredients

2 cups of plant-based milk (soy, almond, oat, rice) -- alt: substitute 1 cup for water

4-5 whole green cardamom pods (just toss them right in)

4-5 peppercorns

2-3 slices of fresh ginger

1 two to three inch cinnamon stick

1 tea bag (rooibos for herbal or black tea)

1 tsp of sweetener of choice (optional)

Recipe Instructions

  1. Combine all of the ingredients with a sauce pan and turn the burner on to medium heat.

  2. Stir to combine and occasionally while cooking. Bring this to a simmer (boiling it for too long can make this bitter, especially if using black tea).

  3. Cook at a simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, or until aromatic.

  4. Strain the tea and serve hot or cold over ice.

I like to buy my spices in bulk at the local Indian Grocery Store. I recently went to Masala Mahal in South, Portland and they were so nice to help me find what I was looking for!
